America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins are 5 ounces of .999 fine silver with special and challenging design elements.U.S. Mint Director Ed Moy described earlier in the year, part of the delay has been in developing a process to inscribe the fineness and weight on the edge of each coin. The special design element is mandated by the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act.
Challenges of incusing the edges, which are particularly thin due to the required bullion coin diameter and weight specifications, have been overcome with the help of a newly purchased coin press that was designed to strike larger coins.

The US Mint released 2009 American Eagle One Ounce Platinum Proof Coin in December and has sold out of the coins, as had been predicted by many numismatic resources. And it took about a week.
Platinum eagle coins were struck at the Mint’s facility at West Point and release was limited to a mintage of only 8,000. The obverse on this year’s Platinum features the first of six annual designs dedicated to the six principles of the Preamble of the United States Constitution.
