America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver Bullion Coins

January 14th, 2011 1 comment
These silver coins are certainly nothing but the ordinary. America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins are 5 ounces of .999 fine silver with special and challenging design elements.

U.S. Mint Director Ed Moy described earlier in the year, part of the delay has been in developing a process to inscribe the fineness and weight on the edge of each coin. The special design element is mandated by the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act.

Challenges of incusing the edges, which are particularly thin due to the required bullion coin diameter and weight specifications, have been overcome with the help of a newly purchased coin press that was designed to strike larger coins.

Tips for Buying Carson City Morgan Dollars

October 19th, 2009 No comments

The historical and romantic Carson City Morgan silver dollar is also lovely to look at and a pleasure to hold. If you’re searching for one of these unique coins for your collection – or simply because you love it – there are some facts you should know to avoid falling victim to a fake.

Carson City, Nevada – a true Wild West town -- utilized the silver strike of 1859 to mint CC Morgan dollars. Also on the reverse side is the double C (Carson City) mark which sets it apart from other Morgan dollars.
